Our approach

We provide mental health support workers to NDIS participants with psychosocial disability. In fact, that is all we do. We are focussed on providing the absolute best mental health support workers that we can. Our workers strive to support their clients to live an empowered life, however that may look for them.

Why “Animo”?

Animo means different things in different languages, all of them align with the values of the organisation. Most importantly to us, it means to animate, or to encourage, which is what we hope we can do with you.

We have a team of 100+ Mental Health Support Workers, operating in all suburbs of metropolitan Melbourne and now in Geelong, where we meet clients in their homes and in the community.

Support Worker FAQs: Finding the Right Match

Finding a support worker while managing your NDIS plan and mental health can be challenging. Animo is a psychosocial‑only provider with a team of over 100 mental health support workers across Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and Geelong. These FAQs explain how to find a support worker with Animo and what to expect once you’re connected.

If you’re ready to find a support worker who understands mental health, you can send a referral online today, and our team will review it and start matching you within a few business days. If you’re not quite ready, you can contact our team with any questions about NDIS psychosocial and mental health support.

  • We aim to have a mental health support worker allocated to you in around two weeks from when we receive your referral.

Timing can vary slightly depending on your location, your availability and the type of support you’re looking for, but we’ll always do our best to get you started as soon as we can.

  • We have over 100 mental health support workers across metropolitan Melbourne and Geelong, including the Mornington Peninsula.

Your support worker can meet you at home or out in the community, depending on what feels safest and most helpful for you. If you’re not sure whether we cover your area, you can still send through a referral or get in touch, and we’ll confirm this for you.

  • Animo is a psychosocial NDIS service provider. We provide mental health support workers, and this is the only type of support we offer. Because we specialise in mental health and psychosocial disability, our workers focus on supporting you with your mental health, your goals and your day‑to‑day life, rather than general disability or personal care support.

  • Making a referral is simple. Participants, families or support coordinators can fill out the referral form on our website.

Your referral goes straight to one of our team leaders, who will look at your needs and start allocating the best mental health support worker we can for you, and that worker will then get in touch with you, typically within about two weeks of us receiving your referral.

  • Your support worker can help you with just about anything you’d like support with that relates to your mental health, independence or community life, such as:

    • Meet you at home for a cup of tea and a chat about how you’re travelling that week.

    • Support you with daily living tasks, such as shopping for groceries or going to a doctor’s appointment.

    • Go for a walk in the park with you and spend time in nature.

    • Help with personal administration, such as Centrelink, paying bills or looking for housing.

    • Support you to feel more confident in busy social situations by going to the local shopping centre together.

    • Support you to improve your physical health, such as attending the gym or exercising outdoors.

    • Help you live more independently by assisting with tasks like gardening or light cleaning at home.

There are also some things we can’t do: we don’t provide personal care like showering or dressing, we’re not a cleaning service, and we don’t manage or administer medication.

  • Animo only provides mental health support work, not generalist disability support. All of our support workers are specialists in mental health, with experience and training in supporting people with psychosocial disability, so you can feel confident you’re working with someone who understands mental health and recovery‑focused support.

“My support worker helps with my isolation and gets me out of my house once a week and into the community. He helps me to achieve, and reminds me of how far I have come. I really value our time together, and there is trust and respect in our relationship”
